The Geneva Agreement has created a system to handle applications for the international registration of a design.
Because of this Agreement, only one application is needed to protect your design in over 40 countries. Your design can be more easily protected in several states in the US, as well. Both Norwegian citizens and businesses can submit applications in accordance with the guidelines of the Geneva Agreement.
It is easier and cheaper to submit a single international application through the Geneva Agreement than to apply to each country separately. Norway will join the Geneva Agreement on international design registration on June 17, 2010.
How do you apply for a design registration through the Geneva Agreement?
Applications should be sent to the International Office of WIPO, in English or French. The application will incur a fee in Swiss francs.
Norwegian applicants may submit their application directly to WIPO or through the Patent Office.
